Name: Seraphena Torres
Age: 28
Gender: Female
Sexual orientation: Heterosexual
Play-by: Natalie Dormer
Amherst crew info
Background: Military
Rank: Sergeant
Specialization: Medical
Years of service: 12
Appearance:
Seraphena is short in height only standing about five foot four in boots. Her body is well proportioned for her small size though often times her dainty facial features lead one to believe at first glance that she’s a fragile creature. She walks with the authority of someone powerful enough to make good on her commands. Instead of the expected look of being overly skinny, she is lightly muscled and a little curvy.
Her hair is a dark shade of blond that dilutes in color down to the tips. It falls well past her shoulders and nearly to her waist. The multiple layers vary giving her long bangs that often over one eye when her tresses hang loose. Often times her hair is tied up and hanging out of a bun giving it the appearance of a short pony tail. Seraphena's eyes are a deep shade of blue and rather cold like the waters of the open ocean.
She is more of a hidden beauty disguised by the way she tends to dress. Sera is most comfortable in uniform. Military boots are her preferred footwear. Not that she won't wear dresses or skirts but there has to be a very important reason for her to put one on.
Personality:
Seraphena is an intelligent woman who decided to major in medical biology and animal studies when she chose a military career path. Problem solving came easy to Sera who found working with her hands satisfying. To mend a wound or diagnose a condition based on is a powerful puzzle to decipher. Technology is the woman’s arch nemesis. For someone with little patience to begin with, Seraphena struggles with advances in technology and hates how computers take the work out of her hands. If a machine goes down she’s the first to suggest repair by sledgehammer. She leaves the more delicate tinkering to her cousin Sully.
Seraphena’s biggest flaw is a stubborn determination that makes asking for help nearly an impossibility. Years of being a military brat and later enlisted, taught her to be self sufficient and rarely seek out help. Sera hates feeling like she needs to be protected. She wants to fight her own battles rather than have them fought for her. She could be beaten half to death before she'd accept help from anyone.
Sufficient enough at hand to hand combat, Seraphena learned much of her military fighting skills from her father. She is rather quick and light on her feet but naturally doesn’t have a lot of power behind her punches. It's only in later combat training that she found a true outlet for dealing with her feelings. Her anger is something bottled up that only surfaces in fighting matches and training.
When it comes to men she can be quite the alluring beauty but doesn’t often go past flirting. She had no time or want to have a boyfriend, just the occasional attention from men. Though very much a tomboy, Seraphena does know how to dress for a fancy occasion and can pass off very much a lady. She's often very blunt and bold with her words. Seraphena has the vocabulary of a sailor, or more so a soldier and often swears in a normal conversation. It takes a conscious effort to censor herself around children and ranking officers. Her bedside manner is often too blunt for more sensitive people and it’s a running joke that Sergeant Torres is racking up a list of patients she’s made cry. She can also be very convincing and some would call her manipulative, but Sera just likes to stay a step ahead of everyone else and has a knack for reasoning with people very bluntly.
Seraphena became untrusting after her father's death. She doesn't let anyone close for fear they will be taken away from her as both of her parents were. Her cousin Sully is one of the few she relies on fully and trusts completely. No one truly knows how much she loves and misses her father because she refuses to speak of him or her mother. Her heart is fully in her work and training to compensate. She becomes very defensive to anything said against the late Commander Torres. Otherwise she lives a rather lonely life. There are few people she trusts but after a friendship is formed she is very loyal and a good woman to have on your side. She can be rather cold to strangers and isn't quick to make friends.
History:
Seraphena was born a military brat to the future Commander of the Amherst. Only called Sera by her father, he served for as long as she could remember. Her mother died of cancer while she was barely a teen. She grew up daddy's girl and Commander Torres’ main priority besides his work with the military. As a child Seraphena attended more schools than she could count as her father was transferred from base to base. Making friends was hard enough but she found herself surrounded by boys more often than girls. Her rough and tumble attitude helped her fit right in.
The Commander’s mother (Sera’s grandmother) did her best to teach the girl how to be a lady but often found her scraped up and bruised from football games with the local boys. Seraphena started showing a liking for animals and the sciences, though Commander Torres encouraged his daughter towards a medical field. Often her grandmother would find her outside studying the native animals, keeping notes and sketches in a drawing pad. She filled her school years with those classes and did rather well, a quick learner and problem solver much to many of her classmate's dislike.
It was the military that was supposed to straighten out the teenage, rebellious Seraphena after her mother’s death and there she thrived under a world built by structure where she could be under the close watch of her father. Sera enlisted at 16 and by the time she was 24, had climbed the ranks to as Amherst’s lead Sergeant of the medical technicians. She eagerly joined her father and cousins aboard the Amherst for what turned out to be it’s last journey.
Dragon
Name: Selfreth
Colour: Gold
Hatching date: 10.8.28
Selfreth is the wild child of her golden sisters. From day one she'll be mischievous, pushing every button she can on every person she can just because and the worst part is there's clearly a twin soul in her bronze brother Welseth. They are two sides of the same coin with Selfreth being the bolder, more outgoing and daring of the pair, perhaps because she is higher up in hierarchy and feels a bit more free to push things even more. Unfortunately this also can make her a bit more harsh and she can be very hard on those she feels deserves it. Action first, thinking later, where Welseth can be a bit more laid back about things. Selfreth will be the first jumping in to take revenge, but she’ll also be the first to forgive. She doesn’t tend to hold grudges and will let things go once she feels the score is settled.
Generally her intentions are good and she’s more out to just enjoy without the restrictions of responsibility and being told what to do. She loves to make the other laugh, though it tends to be at someone else’s expense, and at least she’s predictable in that you know not to trust that fish she brought to you because it’s probably stuffed with worms or something. She’ll be ever a joker and a prankster until the day she dies and her rider will have to be incredibly strong to be able to get this gold to take their job seriously.
If and when this happens however, Selfreth will show herself to be very clever with plenty of ingenuity. Her and Welseth will have an edge in creativity that may be a surprise in how smart they are. It’s just they’d both rather use this for messing around than doing anything useful with it.
