Do they approve of the genetic tinkering? Yes. So much yes.
Appearance:
Elliot is a foxy-looking, scruffy sort of kid that really doesn’t bother with his own appearance. His auburn hair gets cut when it’s in his eyes and it’s usually a friend that just takes a knife to it for him, and though he really should shave off the pathetic scruff that happens on his face, he never puts in the effort. Maybe eventually he’ll be able to grow a real beard, but for now it’s horribly sad and unappealing.
There’s a look of sweet, youngness to him that doesn’t fit at all with his habits and personality. There’s something odd about seeing a charming kid like him sucking on a cigaret or swearing like a sailor.
Personality:
Elliot was never a malicious person by nature, but there aren’t many that know this about him. At first it was easy to feel bad for the kid after he lost his family, but he’s carried around such a vicious chip on his shoulder since that he’s there aren’t as many folk who will tolerate him. There’s a sense of entitlement to this guy now, as if the world owes him everything for what it took away and no matter what potential good things come his way, it’s never enough. No one else’s pain will be as bad as his and nothing can make up for how awful his life has been since then. Elliot is a kid that chooses to be stuck in his misery and is happy to blame everyone else for his problems, which is what he’s been doing since losing his family.
Underneath it all though is a very hurt and sad person. He broke and hit the very bottom, but he never put the work into climbing his way back out again, despite the opportunity and support he could have. There’s a measure of guilt in the person he’s become, but it’s too difficult to address this now. Elliot feels like he’s stuck. Stuck being the guy that no one likes and stuck feeling like there’s no room for him to be a good guy again. With the right support and motivation he could do well. Though he’s not the smartest guy, he’s got a solid work ethic and a good heart.
There is a light at the end though for Elliot. He’s convinced that the way - the ONLY way - for everything to be okay is to have a dragon. It’s an obsessive need that he will do anything to see happen. Unfortunately this means he’s also prone to overlooking the fact that there could be consequences that affect him, ones that could get in the way of the end goal.
History:
Elliot doesn’t remember much from before Threadfall other than he knows it was a pretty happy time. He was thirteen when he lost everything. Life went from happy and relatively easy with him just starting his studies that would allow him to work under the geneticists in a couple more years. He was not the sort that had the brains to get very far, but he was proving to have potential as a good assistant at the very least. He could follow orders and memorize the appropriate actions enough to be useful. It was only having a mentor that seemed to believe in him and a couple of solid friends at his side that helped him get past losing his family. He focused on his work, though there didn’t seem like any real reason to do this until the Dragon Project was developed.
He’d already bonded with one of the little firelizards, a creature that was his closest friend and the idea that he could have something like that big bigger and smarter gave Elliot a purpose to work towards. A flying creature that could take him anywhere on the planet? Great!
After the unsuccessful attempt to get to Fort Hold there was a crippling fear that they might never get to the point where they’d have dragons, something that Elliot refused to let happen. He was the first to show unwavering support to Dr. Seng, a woman he already idolized and would have done just about anything for at this point, and worked hard to prove his value. However, he couldn’t stop himself from taking things into his own hands a little bit, just to guarantee his own personal success. They were meant to start with just a few, carefully selected embryos but there chances were not good enough for him and he knew he wouldn’t be allowed near one of them anyway. So the only option was to make as many as possible.
Dragon
Name: Ragoyeth
Colour: Brown
Hatching date: 10.8.28
Ragoyeth is a hulking, muscular beast of a dragon. Though he doesn’t stand much bigger than the average brown, he’s broader and bulkier than seems strictly fair for one dragon. He will be incredibly strong and powerful with the stamina to stay in the air for hours on end without seeming to tire. Not that he needs to stands out any more than he does, but his hide is a lovely mahogany that makes him look like a freshly carved and polished statue.
Slow and steady. Very slow and steady, this dragon is never in much of a hurry to do anything. He’s the sort to just sort of plod along at his own pace without giving a single damn about what anyone else is doing or saying. It makes it seem like he might not be very smart and well… he’s not. If he really applied himself he could potentially have some cleverness, but he doesn’t really have interest in that sort of thing. No, he’s happily the kind to just shut up, follow orders and then go on his way. Why bother with having to think when you don’t have to?
While not inherently mean, Ragoyeth is a bit of a bully and will just simply take what he wants. It’s not uncommon for him to shove his way over the smaller dragons for their meal or to take the best spot in the sun. Just because he can and really, there’s not much any of them can do anyway, right? They’re just tiny little things and he’s stronger than many of them put together.
Pets:
Name: Brutus
Type: Blue wild firelizard
Brutus is a huge specimen, certainly all brawn and no brain. Despite a near inability to actually be trained to do anything useful, he’s a sweet and loyal creature that’s thoroughly devoted to Elliot. With some practice he’s been able to pick up on carrying through some important tasks, but they tend to be hit or miss. Not that Elliot is overly concerned about training a model citizen out of his friend, Brutus is his BFF and that’s all that’s required of him.
